The Poonawalla Multimillion had further more to look forward to this year. Fashion and glamour are synonymous with the racing world and since last year to add to the charisma, Delna Poonawalla, an independent fashion designer has taken the onus of cultivating the Mumbai audience with the fun and fashion involved in the sport of thoroughbred racing. She has thus created an ambience of glamour and etiquette that can be both enjoyed and used as a guideline to dressing at the races, a custom that the Poonawalla family hopes to bestow Mumbai with.
This year, to ensure that the tradition of the hats was passed on to all present, a special display was set up for all those women to admire the fun of dressing at the races.
Delna Poonawalla also had a special showing of a collection inspired and created around the hats and racing tradition.
Says Delna Poonawalla, “Animals as magnificent as horses should be surrounded by equally well turned out audiences. The races are a perfect marriage of fashion and style to the power, passion and magic displayed by these beautiful creatures. It truly is the king of sports.”
The emphasis was on dressing well in your best Sunday suit as an ode to this elegant sport.
“Whilst this is not a collection from my store, I decided to honour a legacy I am part of by using my creativity. The inspiration was the hats my mother Behroze, sister Simone and I have collected from across the globe. I hope it encourages everyone to enjoy this captivating and smart sport as we do,” quotes Delna Poonawalla.
The hats, collected over the years are from famous stores around the world. They were worn with carefully coordinated outfits created by Delna, for models FleurXavier, Deepti Gujral, Shamita Singha, Aanchal Kumar, Shonal Rawat, Piya Trivedi, Binal Trivedi, Candice Pinto, Francesca Smith, Jasmeet Kaur, Diandra Soares, Bruna Abdalah, Kasia, Moni, Niketan Madhok, Sahil, Tara Sharma, etc. The showstopper was the beautiful Yana Gupta.
